DC Takeover: Black Women In Food

This Spring, Eaton DC proudly hosted the 2nd Annual Black Women in Food Summit, a premier event celebrating the talent, resilience, and innovation of Black women in the food industry. This summit, which began as an initiative of Dine Diaspora founded by Maame Boakye and Nina Oduro, has become a pivotal platform for elevating Black women in the culinary arts. Recognizing a significant gap in opportunities for Black women to advance in their food-focused careers, Boakye and Oduro launched the summit to foster community, inspiration, and professional growth.

Our Director of Culture, Nina Brewton, had the pleasure of sitting down with the founders to discuss their journey into the hospitality space and the inspiration behind launching Black Women in Food. They shared stories of their deep connections to African diaspora food culture and their commitment to creating pathways for other Black women to thrive in this industry.

Partnerships like Black Women in Food Summit x Eaton DC are a powerful statement of the potential and promise of Black women in food, and a testament to the importance of creating inclusive spaces where their contributions are celebrated and amplified.
