The Queer Will

The Queer Will (志同 · 【志·異】) returning to the quiet origin of the term Tongzhi (同志). Drawing from Mai Ke's writings in the 1970s, where a playful "Comrade Chu" was first served as an intimate term between him and his lesbian friends. This term circulated subtly within Chinese-speaking communities as a private recognition among like-minded individuals before LGBTQ+ visibility.

The night takes 同 (tong / same) as the vessel and 異 (yi / difference) as the inside: a will that do not have to be absorbed into global mainstream queer frameworks. Queerness in Tongzhi simply exists. We never needed renaming, nor opposition. In mutual discovery, queer reveals itself as a will. Bringing DJ sets and live performance into Music Room with a pop-up booth in the corner, this "closet" of our own making turns into a warm space where same wills recognize each other. Behind the door, this offers space to connect and exist.
