Quarks presents: "Cyclone" Screening

Directed by Philip Yung (Port of Call), Cyclone is a raw, emotionally charged exploration of transgender identity, marginalization, and self-determination. Selected for the Rotterdam International Film Festival's Big Screen Competition and featured as the Closing Film of the 50th Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF50), the story follows Chao Feng (Lau Yu Kiu), a mainland immigrant in Hong Kong striving to fund her gender-affirming surgery. As she navigates a volatile relationship with her drug-addicted boyfriend (Lee Yu Xuan) alongside the support of her confidante (Suen Wo Yi), Chao Feng confronts painful taboos around sex work, addiction, and conversion therapy—ultimately forcing her to question the true nature of the freedom she seeks.

Organized by Quarks, this special event marks the film's first local screening in Hong Kong following its festival premiere. The screening will be followed by an interactive panel discussion and audience Q&A featuring director Philip Yung, scriptwriter and intimacy coordinator Annabelle Li, additional creative team members, and representatives from LGBTQ+ advocacy groups Quarks and Midnight Blue.
