Marianne film screening & panel discussion

Eaton House hosts a film screening and panel discussion for Marianne on November 18th from 6:30-8:30pm.

Marianne follows the experiences of seven French Muslim women and asks the viewers to look at their assumptions on liberty, feminism, & Western identity.

The screening of Marianne will be followed by a conversation/Q&A with the filmmaker, Valentina Canavesio, and Rim-Sarah Alouane, a French legal scholar whose research focuses on religious freedom, civil liberties, constitutional law, and human rights in Europe and North America.

Marianne is set in the context of France's laïcité, (France's version of secularism). It follows seven French Muslim women from all walks of life reclaiming their narrative away from the stereotypes and one-brush strokes they have to contend with from French media and politicians.

Beyond France though, their experience echos the experience of Muslim women across the world, pushing the viewer to question their own assumptions on liberty, feminism and Western identity.

Marianne recently won the best international film award at the Imagine This Women's Film Festival in New York.
