Crochet design as self-care

Start your crochet design journey with live guidance by Kristen Jeffers through a live granny square workshop.

Crochet artist Kristen Jeffers believes that the more people know about sustainable fiber design, the better. So even if you’ve tried and failed to crochet something before, she invites you to join her for an interactive workshop and crocheting session.

In the first hour, Kristen will demonstrate the process of creating a crocheted granny square. She’ll also share her own history with fiber projects, discussing how one square can form the foundation of all kinds of fiber-related projects and launch a journey through sustainable fashion, accessories, and homewares that relieves stress and creates a sense of accomplishment.

After the demonstration, you’ll have time to get cozy and practice making your own square with the support of Kristen and your classmates.

Attendees will receive a kit including the following items:

  • 1 5 mm crochet hook
  • 1 skein of #4 Worsted weight yarn
  • A tape measure
  • Stitch markers
  • Scissors

This event was made possible by our sponsors Eaton DC and local fiber shop Sweet Pea Fiber.

About DC Design Week

Built and run by 100% volunteer power, DC Design Week is an annual celebration of our community — hosted by AIGA DC. Ten percent of all revenue from DCDW events and all profit this year go toward the Design Continuum Fund (DCF) scholarship fund. We believe in fostering the next generation of designers by helping local, design-minded and underrepresented students as they pursue their education. Interested in becoming a member?
