Sunni Inspirations

From James Acey, Director of Music at Eaton HK:

"When we all decided that, like Eaton DC, we were going to have a spectacular multi-day grand opening event (replete with wellness sessions, screenings, talks and performances) and that I was tasked with helping to book the musical acts, I was both nervous and excited. I was very confident in creating a diverse line- up of local acts but deciding on an international headlining act would be a bit more of a challenge. This was something we all saw as an opportunity to do something very memorable and I was told to think big! My mind began to race with possibility. I remember making a tiered list of artists that I admired and I think would put on a good show. Would Radiohead be too big, how about Bjork? In my head, all of these were possibilities and I duly reached out to managers, booking agents and the like. Some unanswered, others were already on tour at the time, even still others were busy working on new material and were intent on not touring no matter how big the opportunity.

At some point, I arrived at Sunni Colon, at that time, a young up and coming artist out of Los Angeles with a few fantastic EPs. As a brand that prides itself on supporting rising talent, it made all the sense in the world. I got in touch with his management and in a few weeks, and just in the nick of time to process the artist visas, tickets were bought and he was our headliner. It was him and his band’s first time in Asia and they were all very excited to be helping launch the Eaton HK brand in such fashion."
