TAKE ME TO THE RIVER, DRAW ME A STAR

Take Me To The River, Draw Me A Star is a new solo exhibition by Law Yuk Mui, which comes as one of the final exhibitions of our Ways of Water extended Earth Month programming.

During the summer drought of 1963, two hundred village women in Sheung Shui set up an altar on the top of Wa Shan by Ng Tung River, praying for rain. They laid bamboo, flowers and fruits, fresh water, and animal sacrifices beside the rain prayer rock on the mountain top, and performed a set of ancient rituals. It is said that not long after the ritual was performed rain fell from the sky.

Media artist Law Yuk Mui will create video and sound installations based on her field study and archival research of the rainmaking ritual, she will perform and re-enact the ritual with sound artist Lam Yip in a format of live cinema, and followed by an artist talk in the opening at 2-5pm, 3 Jun 2023.
