PRIDE 2023 | TA Zine Presents: Kitty Tsui Exhibition

Who best to cut the umbilical cord to this non-binary first born than Kitty Tsui, a world renowned, trailblazing lesbian writer/activist, and native daughter of Hong Kong residing in the US.

“Words of a Woman Who Breathes Fire”, her lyrical and powerful work, was the first time an Asian American lesbian had a book in print. Her second book, “Breathless: Erotica”, won the Firecracker Alternative Book Award (FAB). Her work has been widely anthologised in some 90 books worldwide and translated into Japanese, German, and Italian. She’s currently working on a new poetry collection and a novel.

Tsui helped found Unbound Feet, the first troupe of Chinese American poet / writer / performers. She is recognised as one of the foremothers of the Asian Pacific Islander lesbian feminist movement. Her super well-toned body has graced the covers of classic zines such as “On Our Backs” and propelled her to attain the bronze and then the gold medals in the Gay Games of the 90s.

A glimpse into Kitty’s fascinating life, in her own words, will be shown at the launch party in a video called “Nice Chinese Girls Don’t” by award-winning director, Jennifer Abod.
