Movement Fest Open call

A Void: Open Call for Movement Proposal | Movement Festival 2022 Guidelines

“Today, by radio” are the first three words taken from “A Void”, a translated work of literature

originally entitled La Disparition by Georges Perec. The core framework of the novel

is to avoid using the letter “e” throughout the entirety of the 300 page novel

- the starting point is the constraint itself, the constraint turning into

play. Many of Perec’s works deal with absence, loss and identity, following the

traumatic events of WW2 and the loss of his own parents at an age when he was

too young to remember them. The unusual work by Perec, who treasured

anti-conformism, unrolls through infantine games, often through word play.

We use "A Void" as this year’s prompt loosely, responding to our own impulse to

consider in a serious yet playful way the conditions within which performance

needs to be / has been reconsidered under the pandemic, often in the absence of

a physical audience or from the perspective of the audience, in the absence of

physical bodies. This year’s festival continues to place literature in relation

to performance. In addition, a key part of this year’s program is the use of

radio which has been a central pillar to Eaton HK’s cultural programming in the

recent years. Creators may consider including digital radio as a component of

their proposal.

Festival Dates: March, 2022
